Satellite tagging of halibut well underway!

This year's satellite tagging campaign for Atlantic halibut in the Gulf of St. Lawrence is well under way! With the help of the Fish, Food and Allied Workers (Newfoundland), Association des Capitaines-Propriétaires de la Gaspésie (Québec), Prince Edward Island Fishermen's Association (Prince Edward Island), and the Gulf Nova Scotia Fleet Planning Board (Nova Scotia), we have been able to deploy tags all around the Gulf for the first time. So far, 36/40 tags have been placed on halibut larger than 130 cm. Tagging large, mature, individuals will allow us to identify spawning grounds for the stock.
